The History of MPCC

In 1921, a number of prominent Mt. Pleasant businessmen and golf enthusiasts met and organized the town's first golf clubThe original location of the Club was on government grounds  at Harris and Pickard Streets,  however this site proved to be only temporary as a search for a permanent location began in Spring of 1922.  Shortly thereafter, 70 acres along the beautiful Chippewa River were acquired from the Dow Company and Mr. Norman from the Saginaw Country Club supervised the layout of the course.  The property also contained a small farmhouse which acted as the Club's first clubhouse.and with 50 members the Mt. Pleasant Country Club opened on May 12, 1922.

During the 1930's, while the entire Nation felt the effects of the Great Depression and other social and sporting clubs closed their doors because of financial hardship,  Mt. Pleasant Country Club continued to thrive, with the membership roster totaling 150-200 throughout the decade.

In 1938, the great Walter Hagen played an exhibition match, shooting a round of 2 over par 70  and in the process established the Club as a first-class venue.  Over the next 70+ years, Mt. Pleasant Country Club would play an important role in the rich tournament  history in Michigan.   In addition the Club has been instrumental in the

development of some of the areas best players, including current PGA and Web.com Tour player Doug Labelle, II.

While Mt. Pleasant Country Club has seen many changes since its inception in 1921, the mission and purpose of the Club remains the same - to provide Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and the surrounding areas a private golf club with exquisite golf course conditions, world-class member service and a member experience like no other.
